Potatoes

The potato is a technical crop with multiple outlets (facilities, industry, consumption…).

Each market has specific nutritional, technological and health requirements. In this context, fertilization is an essential lever to act on specific determining criteria such as the number of tubers, the growth and homogeneity of sizes or the quality and conservation of the harvest.

In order to respond to the problems encountered, Angibaud has developed end-to-end nutrition programs including organic and mineral fertilizers, leaf nutritional supplements and approved biostimulants.

Key fertilization aspects

The potato mobilises a large quantity of nutrients (N, P, K, Mg, CaO…) throughout its growth cycle.

Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are important for root and plant growth from the time of planting. Reduced or impaired availability of any of these nutrients will have a direct impact on crop establishment, yield and crop quality.

From emergence to tuber initiation, the addition of phosphorus-based leaf supplements makes it possible to adjust soil nutrition and to act on the development of the number of tubers, particularly for varieties with weak tuberisation.

Ensure vegetative growth, tuber enlargement, uniformity of size and quality, and preservation of the crop, nutrient supply throughout the cycle is essential.

In addition, special attention must be paid to deficiencies in sulphur, magnesium, calcium and trace elements.

Boron, manganese and zinc, trace elements to watch out for

Depending on the situation, deficiencies may occur in these trace elements which, although taken in small quantities, are no less essential.

  • Boron acts on the early growth of the plant and pollination. It also promotes the assimilation of calcium
  • Manganese is an enzyme activator that is associated with nitrate reduction in the plant (nitrogen exploitation).
  • Zinc is involved in the synthesis of proteins and starch. It is a precursor of auxin, responsible for cell elongation.

Abiotic stresses

During the growth cycle, different abiotic stresses are encountered by plants, affecting their yield potential and the quality of their harvest. To enrich plant physiology and limit the depressive effects of these stresses, Angibaud has developed a complete range of approved biostimulants concentrated in amino acids, laminaria algae or humic substances.

Solutions and a program adapted to each situation encountered

Orgabille®

Granulated organomineral fertilizer

Orgabille is a range of granulated organomineral fertilizers made from seabird guano and organic sulphate of potassium supplemented with soluble mineral nutrients.
Organic raw materials promote biological activity and the release of nutrients from the soil. The combination of mineral materials allows to cover the primary and secondary nutrient requirements of all crops.

4-5-20 SK + 28 SO3 + 3 MgO

Optrio 365+®

Leaf nutrient complex: phosphorus, magnesium, nitrogen, zinc

Optrio 365+ ensures crop establishment and supplements soil nutrition at key stages of growth. Optrio 365+ promotes root and vegetative growth. Optrio 365+ acts on photosynthetic activity and nutrient assimilation. Optrio 365+ provides essential soluble nutrients whose effectiveness is independent of pedo-climatic conditions.

450 g/l P205 + 65 g/l N + 65 g/l Zn + 65 g/l MgO

Stimurel®

Leaf nutrient complex:
organic nitrogen and potassium

Stimurel improves vegetative growth and promotes tuber enlargement.
The amino acids naturally contained in this organic liquid extract promote resistance to abiotic stresses and enrich the quality and preservation of the tubers (homogeneity of calidamage to tubers…).

Stimurel is a leaf solution, authorised in organic agriculture, validated and recognised to increase the yield and quality of crops.

50 g/l N + 70 g/l K2O

Pepton 85-16®

Approved biostimulant WG concentrated in free amino acids – AMM 1190424

Pepton 85-16 provides a gain of energy directly assimilated by the plant to ensure growth or crop recovery after a period of stress.
Pepton 85-16 triggers numerous metabolic reactions, including pseudo-hormonal actions that promote plant resistance to abiotic stress situations (drought, low and high temperatures, etc.).
Form WG, Pepton 85-16 is easily used in all soil fertilization strategies, whether liquid fertilization or leaf application.
Pepton 85-16 is a product that can be used in organic farming.

Increase the number of tubers

The initiation of tuberisation is a key phase in the growth of the potato, conditioning the number of tubers.

In addition to the choice of variety, the reasoning behind fertilization can also influence tuberisation.

The application of nutritional supplements based on phosphorus ensures its availability and completes the contribution of the soil, to act directly on the multiplication and the cell division. Indeed, the assimilation of phosphorus is very often hindered by the pedo-climatic conditions limiting the yield potential.

To solve this problem, Angibaud recommends the leaf application of OPTRIO 365+®, or Phorti Maxi from the hook stage.

These solutions are validated and recognised to increase the number of tubers per plant, to homogenize the size and to act on the conservation of the harvests (firmness…).

Promote vegetative growth and tuber enlargement

To enrich vegetative growth and support metabolic activity, Angibaud has developed leaf nutritional supplements. as that Stimurel to promote tuber growth, enrich tuber quality and promote resistance to abiotic stress.

Angibaud also recommends the application of Pepton 85-16®, a biostimulant solution approved to stimulate growth and reduce the depressive effects of abiotic stress.
